Episode 5 – Post Like a Pro, Rank Like a Boss
Okay, real talk—when was the last time you posted something on your Google Business Profile?
Umm… does accidentally uploading a photo of my dog in front of the shop count?
Hah—only if your dog is running a promo for you. But seriously, if your G.B.P hasn’t seen an update since the last season of Seinfeld, we’ve got a problem.
Yeah, that’s like throwing a party and forgetting to invite the guests… or worse, leaving stale chips and cake on the table and expecting people to be impressed.
Nobody wants sad snacks. Welcome back to Rankpast’s Google Business Profile Optimization Course—the podcast that makes SEO feel less like homework and more like happy hour.
I’m your enthusiastic sidekick Aileen, fueled by caffeine and curiosity.
And I’m your slightly sarcastic co-host who loves turning boring biz advice into something you’d actually want to listen to. Today’s topic? Posting on your G.B.P like a total pro.
Because, yeah, your Google Business Profile is kind of like a garden. If you don’t water it regularly, things shrivel, die, and your customers go… well, to someone else’s garden.
And by “water it,” we mean post updates! Think of it like dropping fresh beats at a party. Keep the energy high, and people stick around. Let it go quiet? The dance floor clears faster than your aunt’s house after she says, “Let’s play a board game.”
Haha oh nooo, not Monopoly again, auntie!
Alright, let’s break down what you should be posting on your G.B.P so you’re not just yelling into the digital void like a mime at a megaphone factory.
Ooo haha, that’s a visual.
First up—service offerings. Tell people exactly what you do and why they should care. This isn’t the time to be shy.
Yeah, saying “We do plumbing” is like listing your dating profile as “I exist.” Not exactly swipe-right material.
Exactly. Give people a reason to pick you. For example: “Looking for a summer makeover? Book our hair coloring service today for $150 and get a free deep-conditioning treatment.”
Ya! Now we’re talkin’. Clear offer, clear price, and a bonus? That’s like the guac being included for free—a rare and magical moment.
Next—blog post summaries. You’ve got that beautifully written blog? Don’t let it collect dust! Pull a juicy quote, link it on your G.B.P, and drive people to your site.
It’s like a movie trailer for your blog. Tease them with the goods, and then send them to the full feature.
Exactly. Something like, “Struggling to stay active during the holidays? Check out our blog: ‘10 Quick Home Workouts to Stay Fit This Winter.’”
Short. Snackable. SEO-friendly. Boom.
Speaking of snacks—5-star reviews. But make them pretty! Use Canva to turn your glowing testimonials into mini billboards for your biz.
Yes! Like, “Five Star‘…Best facial ever! My skin is glowing and the staff were angels!.”
And don’t forget the CTA—“Book your appointment today!”
Create a review template in Canva that has your brand’s colors and logo. Make sure to add your website, address and phone – and then copy/paste 5-star reviews and post to your socials.
Mmm, and uh, let’s just agree not to fake reviews, okay?
Yeah no. That’s like giving yourself a gold star in your diary and pretending you won an award.
Haha yes! Okay, next up—announcements, news, and events. If something cool is happening, tell people! Whether it’s a new hire or a book signing, make it known.
For example: “Join us June 15th at 6 PM for our Author Meet & Greet with Jane Doe.” Boom. Now I’ve got something to look forward to and I might buy a book!
Exactly. Posting about these things shows you’re alive and thriving—not just gathering dust like your treadmill turned laundry rack.
Oh wow, I think you might be talking about me with that treadmill…
Hahaha nooo, I wouldn’t do that Kai.
Next—limited-time promos or discounts. This one’s easy: people love deals. But you gotta add urgency.
“Flash Sale! 20% off all summer apparel this weekend only!” It’s like yelling “Free donuts!” in a crowded office. You’ll get attention fast.
Right? And probably a stampede.
Alright, now—new product launches or seasonal specials. These are the “Oooooh!” moments.
Like, “Say hello to summer with our Mango Matcha Iced Latte!” I don’t even drink matcha but now I want to.
That’s the power of a good post. Make people curious. Make them thirsty. Literally.
Then we’ve got community involvement and achievements. Show the heart behind your business.
For sure. Share stuff like, “We’re sponsoring this year’s Park Clean-Up” or “We just won Best Desserts in Town!”
Aww. That gives me the warm fuzzies.
It builds trust, too. People love supporting businesses that give back—or at least look like they high-five the community once in a while.
But if you do something amazing and don’t post about it… did it even happen?
Ha! SEO philosophers everywhere are shaking their heads – and there’s a fallen tree somewhere just waiting to be heard…
Okay, so, how do we post like pros and not like digital cavemen?
Here’s the cheat sheet:
Keep it short. Think 100–300 words, max. A Google Business Profile post is limited to 750 characters.
Add visuals. And please, not the blurry ones from 2016.
Always include a CTA (that’s Call to Action). Tell people what to do next—”Book now,” “Call today,” “Read more,” whatever fits.
Use keywords naturally. Sprinkle, don’t dump.
Post about your services every once in a while – highlight a specific service by copying the page content into chatGPT and asking it to “write an enticing, click-worthy 750 character Google Business Profile post based on the content below.” Make sure to link that post back to the specific service page (which could be your homepage if you only offer one service, like, say, a roofer.
Post once a week. Stay consistent or Google forgets you exist.
Use tools like ChatGPT, Publer, Hootsuite or Buffer… so you can post while sipping your iced matcha and pretending to work. Those tools will help you create and schedule posts.
You could manually upload a new post to your G.B.P every week through the dashboard… but let’s be real—you’ll forget, get distracted by a squirrel, or just choose Netflix instead.
Plus, it’s a tedious little chore that could totally be handled with scheduling tools. Work smarter, not sadder.
Mmm Yum… efficiency tastes scrumptious.
Alright friends, time for a recap!
Let’s hit the takeaways like a boss.
One—Post clear descriptions of your services. Don’t just say “plumbing.” Be specific. Be helpful.
Two—Summarize those blogs! Tease the good stuff and link to the full post.
Three—Turn reviews into eye candy. Canva is your bestie.
Four—Announce stuff! Don’t be shy. News, events, big wins—post it.
Five—Limited time promos equals urgency equals action.
Six—New products or seasonal launches? Make it a thing!
Seven—Show your community love. It builds trust and makes you way more likable than Steve from across the street who never waves.
And that’s a wrap for today’s episode!
Hopefully, your G.B.P is now less ghost town and more front-row center, mainstage at the festival-like.
